What we do

Acro

Our Acro classes are fun sessions where gymnastic techniques and dance are combined to give our students the tricks they need to really shine during performances.

Whether you are new to gymnastics or a trained club competitor our Acro classes will help you strengthen, stretch, and feel confident to try out new skills with our team of fully trained staff on hand to support you all the way.

Acting

Our Acting classes cover variety of dramatic techniques and disciplines including: improvisation, scripted texts, mime, character development, studying practitioners, play writes and performances.

Our younger age groups will start their Drama journey by learning through play. Our trained tutors will guide them through a series of confidence building techniques and drama games to introduce them to the world of stage acting, public speaking and physical theatre.

As students progress into our older sessions the focus will begin to shift toward scripted work and learning how to develop a character within a scene. They will learn to devise, develop and direct their own work under the guidance of our highly experienced team. They will also be given lots of opportunities to showcase their skills in a variety of performances, showcases and events throughout the year.

Many of our young students have had great success in gaining professional work on TV and Film productions, as well as West End Musicals and Plays. With a large number of our “”Professional Students”” gaining places at full-time performing arts colleges.

Ballet

Our Ballet classes are the foundation of any good dance training. Most forms of dance will find their roots in the techniques developed through ballet, and those students wishing to take on a career in dance or musical theatre should have a strong knowledge and ballet technique.

At Italia Conti Chislehurst we follow the ISTD Examination syllabus. The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing is one of the World’s leading dance examination boards.

All of our Ballet teachers are qualified ISTD tutors, and as such have gone many years of strict training to ensure that our students will learn the very best techniques and etiquettes.

We offer classes ranging from Pre-Primary (3-5 year olds) all the way up to Intermediate Ballet. This is the standard that most Professionals entering into the performing arts industry would achieve after 3 years of full time training at a Theatre College.
Unlike many other schools we ensure that we offer the opportunity for our pupils to enter into their exams at various times throughout the year. Therefore ensuring no-one is left waiting for the rest of their class to catch up with them before they can further their training.

Contemporary

Our latest and most unique style of dance is ‘Contemporary’. Once a term used to describe expressive dance with fluid movements, Contemporary is now so much more than that.

Italia Conti Chislehurst has put a modern twist on the classic dance style and created a fusion of lyrical, jazz, modern, storytelling and emotion.

Our choreographers have worked with and trained alongside many leading names within the Contemporary and Commercial dance world.

Dance On Film

Our Dance on Film classes are interactive sessions where students get to learn both how to dance on screen and also how to work behind the scenes.

From Choreographing, camera angles, movements, editing and sharing, these classes are a “”one-stop-shop”” for anyone interested in Dance for Social Media, Film & TV.

Our young dancers will take it in turns to be on screen. Whilst their class mates will create the action and choreograph not only the dances but the camera movements too.

Our tutors have vast experience working on big budget Dance TV series, and are experienced Social Media content creators.

Film & TV

Our Film & TV courses are interactive sessions where students get to learn both how to act on screen and also how to work behind the scenes.

From Directing, lighting design, sound recording, continuity, production, editing and set design, these classes are a “”one-stop-shop”” for anyone interested in working in the Film & TV industries.

Our young actors will take turns to be on screen and hone their skills in bringing believable and interesting characters to life on camera. Whilst their class mates will set the scene and direct the action.

Our tutors have vast experience working on big budget Movies and TV series, and are also professional film-makers and producers. Their extensive knowledge will give the students the tips and tricks they need to give their very best performance on the first take!

LAMDA

LAMDA stands for the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Their examinations in Speech and Drama are considered the most prestigious in the world.

At Italia Conti Chislehurst we offer LAMDA exam sessions to students aged 8-18. The age restriction is due to the educational nature behind the syllabus. As well as learning and preparing speeches and monologues to perform in the exam, students must also retain information about play writes, plays, practitioners and performances.

Exams take place regularly throughout the year at designated locations in London, and we will advise students when we feel they are ready to take their performance exam. Once higher levels are achieved in LAMDA exams these begin to count towards valuable UCAS points for University entry.

Modern

Modern is a syllabus based dance style that follows the ISTD exams grades. The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing is one of the World’s leading dance examination boards.

All of our Modern teachers are qualified ISTD tutors, and as such have gone many years of strict training to ensure that our students will learn the very best techniques and etiquettes.

We offer classes ranging from Grade 1 all the way up to Intermediate Modern.

Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre is the familiar style found in West End musicals and iconic Musical Films.

Our top team of directors, choreographers and musical directors are all experienced Musical Theatre performers with West End and International Tour experience.

Students will learn vocal arrangements of Musical Theatre numbers and then piece together routines and scenes to really bring the story to life.

Many of our current students have successfully gained roles in West End and Touring Musicals, and we have an enviable list of ex-students who’s careers have blossomed in the West End since their times training with us in Chislehurst.

Singing

At Italia Conti we offer group singing classes where students will get to experience an eclectic mix of styles including: pop, musical theatre, jazz and even classical.

Our trained vocal coaches work through techniques in order to strengthen the voice and to extend the vocal range of the students. They will also help to improve diction and breath control.

Working in groups allows lots of opportunity to work on harmonies and more intricate ensemble pieces.

We often give our students the opportunity to showcase their work in performances and events throughout the year, and our technical team take the opportunity to record tracks with the students to give them a real feel of being in a professional recording studio as often as we can!
