Italia Conti has been at the heart of the UK’s performing arts industry since its founding. From Noël Coward to Bonnie Langford to Layton Williams, since 1911, Italia Conti’s intensive training programmes have produced a rich roster of exciting and dazzling performers. Talent is universal but opportunity is not. Our open and inclusive ethos attracts students from all geographies and all backgrounds. Every year we aim to offer scholarships and bursaries to enable outstanding students to come to Italia Conti to hone their skills and realise their potential.
The demand is huge. Rising costs of fees and maintenance combined make it more and more difficult for talented and passionate individuals without independent means to access the training and facilities that could help change their lives and set them on successful career pathways.
The Italia Conti Trust has been set up specifically to increase the support we are able to offer to today and tomorrow’s talented young people. Our aim is to ensure students with the greatest potential can train in the performing arts regardless of their financial circumstances, and to give them the best training, pastoral support and facilities.

At Italia Conti, we believe that representation matters. The performing arts thrive when a multitude of voices and experiences are embraced and celebrated. Bradley, a student on Italia Conti’s Acting programme, grew up in a single parent family with his mum. Growing up he didn’t get some of the chances many other children have as he was not always able to attend clubs and sports due to the fees or affording transport to them. He found the financial pressure of being at drama school and living on his own was a worry. By the Christmas holidays he was finding things difficult.
“I remember getting panicky and saying to my mum, ‘I’ve got no money – what am I going to eat and how am I going to get back home at Christmas?’.”
Italia Conti was able to support Bradley with a bursary which helped him to cover his bills and travel each month. It eased the financial burden of being a student and the worry that he was experiencing. Every holiday he works long hours to support him during the year, but a bursary means he can focus on his creativity and be a key part of the Conti community.
“My bursary goes towards my bills and travel. It stops me worrying and means I can experience Conti the way everyone should be able to, no matter what your financial background is…Without the bursary I either wouldn’t be here now or if I was still here, I’d be scared, and I think my mum would be too…It puts my mum at ease knowing that she doesn’t have to worry about me while I’m here.”
