The Italia Conti Associate School Reigate was opened in January 1995 to fulfil the needs of professional training on a part-time basis. Its aims and goals are to put in place the ethos and skills of the full-time Italia Conti Academy and be a wonderful extension of this amazing institution. Our school is open to students from 3 years to 18+. Classes take place on weekends on Saturdays and Sundays for 3 ten-week terms per academic year.

Saturdays are currently run in age-group Performing Arts Bubbles. Our students train in multi-genre disciplines including Ballet, Tap, Acting, Jazz/Hip-Hop, Street Dance, Musical Production, Singing and Contemporary.

Sundays are for Graded syllabus classes in RAD Ballet and ISTD Tap where students study for their exams. We are so proud of our students who continually gain brilliant exam results.

Our Principal, Janine Eaton, prides herself on the excellent level of technique, performance skills and professionalism taught from the very youngest of classes and carried on throughout the school.
Our staff are highly trained and qualified. They have the student’s well-being at heart and are encouraging, disciplined and hold an enhanced DBS along with being Licensed Chaperones.

There are many great performance opportunities with Italia Conti Reigate, including a full-scale Performing Arts show in the Summer Term, a Spring Drama and Gala/Cabaret event, a Charity Christmas singing concert, professional Fringe Theatre shows, an annual Summer School Show and more.
For our senior students, we offer personal mentoring and guidance, career advice, audition tuition and preparation for full-time performing arts courses in a variety of schools, universities and colleges.

Every year since we have been open, students have gained scholarship places at leading Independent Senior Schools, full-time Conservatoire training places, Degree course places and an array of fantastic opportunities in the world of Performing Arts.

Our Alumni scans across the world of dance, theatre, film, television, radio, playwrights, authors, teachers, choreographers, directors and even includes an ‘Olivier Award’ winner.

As well as providing performing arts training, we like to ensure our students and their parents feel part of our family and we have a strong ethos of working together, supporting each other and learning in a kind and nurturing environment. We want our students to develop high self-esteem, good confidence and the ability to follow their hearts and succeed in their chosen path and career both in the Artistic world and otherwise.

We are committed to providing an environment in which our pupils can be trained to develop and broaden their skills to their individual highest possible standard. We have a great community spirit at Italia Conti Reigate and allow pupils to express their individual personalities.

Miss Janine holds strong beliefs in natural beauty and encourages body positivity and a feeling of self-worth in all of her students. She is invested in giving her students the best possible experience of both training and performing and is always there to both listen and help and to guide them in their future.

Janine Eaton – Principal

Janine first starting dancing at the age of two and a half when she went to her local ballet classes. This started a life-long love of ballet and dance in general which saw her dance several times a week and take many exams. As a child, she performed in many wonderful theatres and shows and at 15 years old she auditioned successfully for Italia Conti. In 1976, she started a 3 year full-time training course there which expanded her Performing Arts training with the addition of Acting and Singing as well as all dance genres including jazz and contemporary. Janine adored her training and made many life-long friends in the industry. She performed as ‘Hope’ in Pandora’s Box at the famous Young Vic Theatre and went on to be in a professional touring revue. Alongside this, she studied and took her teaching Associate exams in Modern, Tap and Ballet with the ISTD and later was accepted to train and become a teacher with the RAD. Teaching became her main focus and has been a lifelong passion for Janine. She particularly loves starting pupils on their dance careers and then following their path and helping them along the way, often referring to them as her ‘Ballet Babies’.

She is so proud of all of her pupil’s exam success and professional work and growth and is very proud to have taught West-End stars, Worldwide recording artistes, Professional Ballet Dancers, playwrights and an Olivier Award winner.

In 1985, with two very small children, Madeline and Rory, she was given the amazing opportunity to be the first person to become the Principal of an Italia Conti Associate School and Reigate was founded along with the school in Guildford.
Italia Conti Reigate has had amazing success and results and Janine is tireless in her mentoring of her pupils and desire to be the best Principal she can, encouraging body-positivity, natural beauty, self-worth and a good work ethic.
Producing shows is her passion and over the years she regularly produces four shows a year along with choreographing for Professional Pantomime and devising new shows for Fringe Theatre. Designing and organising costumes is also very important to her and she loves the ‘buzz’ of arriving at the theatre for get-in and rehearsals.

Her charity work for the homeless is extremely important to her and she is so proud to raise hundreds of pounds a year for a variety of different charities with her Charity Christmas Concert.

Alongside all of her teaching work, both for Italia Conti and many other schools and institutions, Janine loves to write poetry and acting scripts. She has also just finished her first novel due to be published soon and is two books into her children’s book series. Having over five hundred poems ready to be published soon she is excited about this extension to her career.
Janine has produced her own Pantomimes as well and regularly writes and produces her own drama shows.

She has appeared on television with her beloved dog Magnum in a comedy documentary about builders.

Her family is the centre of her world and she is never happier than spending time with her children, walking the family dog, cooking and seeing friends.

What we do

Acting in the early stages is based on fun and expression to build a pupil’s confidence and how to express themselves. This then develops into discovering improvisation, script learning, acting for camera and public speaking. Acting allows a pupil to release innermost emotions and explore their own feelings along with the characters they are playing.

RAD Ballet

Ballet is a truly wonderful dance genre and is grounded on strength, strong discipline and artistry. It requires a strong technique and work ethic and the desire to achieve the beauty and grace of the skill.

Musical Theatre

Musical Theatre is the ultimate ‘triple-threat’ skill as it encompasses Singing, Dancing and Acting. It forms the basis of our performance classes and is the main area of entertainment in both the West End and world-wide theatres. In class, pupils are encouraged to use their own personality and performance skills to live out and enjoy the characters and numbers.

Group ensemble singing classes with exciting and varied repertoire from Musical Theatre, Pop and Rock. As confidence and ability grow in our safe, friendly and supportive classes, students will enjoy the opportunity to sing solo if they desire.

This a dance genre with strong routes in ballet. It originated in America and is now a firm favorite of our students of all ages. Contemporary dances often tell a story and use emotions and feelings to portray their meaning. Strength, technique and flexibility are vital in this genre.

Tap is a highly energetic and uplifting dance form centered on having and learning, good rhythm, intuitive timing, flexibility all linked with a variety of steps and styles.

Individual Singing

This offers a student the chance to work 1-1 with their singing teacher to hone and improve their voice.

A class and dance form which is high energy and exciting. Up-to-the-minute dance music is often used to accompany the class and many different skills are learnt including:

  • Hip-Hop
  • Popping
  • Locking
  • Break Dance
  • House
  • Lyrical Jazz

Jazz routines are a highlight of our performances.
