About Italia Conti

WORK FOR US

Since 1911, we’ve delivered performing arts training – and we’re also its future. This means there has never been a more exciting time to join us!

Italia Conti is one of the UK’s leading performing arts colleges. We offer world-class vocational training in Musical Theatre, Dance and Acting at FE and HE level. Our journey is one of continual evolution and we are always seeking talented individuals to join our team.

For further information about the vacancies we currently have available, please look below.

Applicants must have an unblemished, proven record of success and share Italia Conti’s commitment to safeguarding, equal opportunities and promoting the performing arts. All posts are subject to an enhanced DBS check and online / public domain checks in accordance with safer recruitment procedures.

Application for vacant posts is by completion of our standard Application Form and Equal Opportunities Monitoring Forms. The Application Form requires a Supporting Statement where applicants are asked to set out their interest in the role and how they meet the essential criteria for the post (akin to a covering letter). For this, we are happy to accept instead a short (no longer than 5 minutes) video should applicants prefer. Please complete both forms and send them, together with a link to a video where appropriate, to recruitment@italiaconti.co.uk, stating clearly in the subject line of the e-mail the job title of the post for which you are applying.

Safeguarding Board Advisor

  • Part-time
  • Honorarium & Expenses paid

Have you worked at a senior level in a safeguarding role – or do you have significant demonstrable experience in safeguarding young people?

Are you passionate about the performing arts?

Would you relish the opportunity to advise the Board of one of Britain’s leading performing arts schools?

The Italia Conti Board of Directors provides strategic governance and oversight of Italia Conti Arts Centre Limited. The Safeguarding Board Advisor will act as an independent advisor to the Board of Directors, offering expert guidance on safeguarding matters and supporting the Board in its oversight of safeguarding practice across the organisation.

We’re seeking an experienced safeguarding professional who will:

  • Attend a minimum of three Board meetings per-year to advise the Board on safeguarding best-practice
  • Provide advice and challenge to the Board on the effectiveness of Italia Conti’s safeguarding arrangements and act as a helpful ‘boundary spanner’ between the institution and the external environment
  • Undertake periodic safeguarding audits
  • Advise the Board on safeguarding preparedness and support the organisation in maintaining inspection readiness
  • Provide occasional support and advice and an external perspective to the incumbent Safeguarding & Wellbeing Team.

One of the best-known names in showbusiness, Italia Conti has a proud, over 100-year, tradition of training some of the biggest names on stage and screen – from Noel Coward to Bonnie Langford, Martine McCutcheon, James Nelson-Joyce, Jonno Davies and Olivier award-winning stars Sam Tutty and Layton Williams.

Now one of the UK’s leading Higher Education institutions for the performing arts, Italia Conti is based in purpose-built premises in Woking, delivering training at FE and HE level in the disciplines of dance, musical theatre and acting.

We hold three Board meetings per year, one each term, usually in November, March and June. It is envisaged that the Safeguarding Board Advisor would join remotely for the Safeguarding item.

If you have an interest in the performing arts and if you would welcome the opportunity to contribute your expertise in our specialist setting we would love to hear from you. The time commitment is modest,  but your experience and insight would be invaluable.

An honorarium of £125 per Board Meeting is payable in connection with this position, with additional fees and out-of-pocket expenses agreed according to the range and scope of the work.

We offer complimentary tickets to our productions and the opportunity to get immersed in the life and work of Italia Conti.

  • “I have just graduated from Liverpool Theatre School with a Level 6 Diploma in Professional Musical Theatre. I wanted to do the BA Hons (Top Up) in Professional Arts Practice course to further develop my skills for the industry. It is the perfect balance between academic writing and creativity. I already have seen improvements, both in my academic and performing work, and I now really value the ability to critically reflect on past experiences in order to improve my current skills.”

  • “I have found that my first term at Italia Conti has been better than I could’ve imagined. I am working with driven, passionate, likeminded people within all different realms of the performing arts industry. I find that the course is very tailored to each individual and the content is broad enough to apply to everyone but specific enough to challenge each person within their abilities. I find the course to be a place where I can collaborate and interact with people who I’d never had met otherwise. I only look forward to what the next few months of the course bring and feel more motivated than ever.”
