About Us: specialist performing arts school

Our Associate School in Brighton and Hove offers a wide range of classes, providing students with the opportunity to receive a full and thorough training and learn a wide range of performance skills.

Our part-time Associate classes are offered to pupils between 3 and 18 years – whether it’s for recreation, physical and social development or a serious step towards a long-term career, the emphasis is on enjoyment and first class training.

Our timetable allows students to choose as many classes as they wish to study and can select from a variety of subjects. This allows them to develop their skills at their own pace, exploring their passion in a fun, supportive environment. Many students of our performing arts schools even come back to teach at our Associate Schools in later life!

Italia Conti Associates is dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for all of our pupils. Our safeguarding policy is available to all students and staff.

Italia Conti Associates is run by the Principals whose roles are to supervise rather than teach. Whilst the tuition is delivered by specialist teachers, the Principals are free to visit and observe all of the classes at the school.

Italia Conti Associates requires all its Principals, teachers and assistants to obtain enhanced clearance via the DBS – Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB). In addition, most of the staff are licensed chaperones.

The Principals have direct contact with Italia Conti’s Designated Safeguarding Lead where professional help, advice and support is available on the rare occasions that it is required.

The combination of the non-teaching Principals, the small class sizes and the immediate access to expert professional advice at any time is what sets Italia Conti Associates apart from many other organisations working with children.

Linda Edwards, our co-principal, directs and produces our annual production.

Linda Edwards – Co-Principal

Linda has been co-principal of Italia Conti Associates Brighton & Hove (formerly Clapham and Brighton) since 1999, with her sister Debbie. Linda has had a long relationship with Italia Conti, having trained there herself in the 70s.

Linda was the founder and creator of London’s Landor Theatre, which she ran for nine years from 1994, producing outstanding musical revivals including ‘City of Angels’, ‘The Apple Tree’, ‘Honk’, ‘Anything Goes’, ‘Into the Woods’ amongst many others, all to great critical acclaim.

Linda has worked in company and stage management and lighting design for more than 30 years and became the youngest production manager in the country at age nineteen. She went on to work extensively in repertory, touring and the West End.

Linda was resident production manager at Italia Conti Academy for seven years and followed up a few years later as Production co-ordinator at the main site in the Barbican.

For the past fifteen years, Linda has been one third of CBL Management, a personal management service for artists in Film, TV, Theatre and Musical Theatre established in response to the growing demands for excellence within the entertainment industry.

Linda is a licensed Chaperone and a qualified Red Cross first aider.

Debbie Folan – Co-Principal

Debbie attended Italia Conti Academy in London for full-time education from the age of ten years. Debbie then went on to study at the London College of Fashion.

During the 1980s/90s Debbie was area manager for London and the South East for the make up company Bourjois Cosmetics, before putting her career on hold to bring up her daughter Niamh.

Debbie and her sister Linda combined to become Principals of the associate schools Italia Conti Clapham (now Battersea), Italia Conti Wimbledon, and Italia Conti Brighton & Hove.

Debbie is a licensed Chaperone and fully qualified Red Cross first aider.
