Body Language Course

Body Language Course

In the acting world, it’s not only what you say but what you do that makes the difference between a good and a great performance.

How you move, stand, gesture, and react all play a big part in bringing characters to life. So, mastering these body language skills is essential for delivering a compelling performance.

At Italia Conti, we understand that performance goes way beyond words. That’s why body language and non-verbal communication training is deeply embedded in many of our professional programmes, such as our BA Honours Acting course and our BA Honours Musical Theatre course.

We also have a specialist MA course – Teaching and Coaching: Actor’s Movement, which helps students develop their coaching skills so they can support other actors with movement and body language.

Why Body Language Matters in Performance

Body language is often the first thing audiences notice, even though they might not be aware of it! Body language sets the tone, reveals emotion and creates authenticity in performances. From the subtle tension in a hand gesture to the way a performer takes up space on the stage, body language is key to storytelling.

At Italia Conti, our students learn to control body language through movement classes, character development workshops and scene work. These skills enhance stage presence, as well as confidence and clarity, enabling performers to convey feeling and meaning without dialogue.

Building Confidence on and off Stage

Training in body language isn’t just great for being a better performer, it’s about becoming a more confident communicator all around.

Many students find that as they improve their physical expression, they also develop better self-awareness, emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills. These benefits carry through to auditions, interviews, professional interactions, and personal relationships, too, making body language training a valuable asset off and on stage.

Integrated Body Language Training

As a performing arts university, body language training is incorporated into most of our courses.

  • In the BA Honours Acting programme, physical theatre and movement training help students build the tools they need to inhabit their roles fully.
  • In the BA Honours Musical Theatre course, movement is equally essential. Performers learn to blend dance, choreography, and expressive body language to improve storytelling through song and performance.
