About Italia Conti

Outreach & Participation

Italia Conti is committed to ensuring that everyone has access to world-class conservatoire-style training regardless of age, ethnic origin, disability, gender, religion, sexual orientation or socio-economic status.

With this in mind, we offer a number of workshops, talks and regional auditions. Italia Conti is working together with The Brit School, NYT’s Playing Up, Impact Dance, Artistry Youth Dance and SK Dance School of Performing Arts to provide opportunities for their students to audition.

We also regularly will schools and colleges to offer a free workshop to pupils looking to train in the Performing Arts, which will provide a taster for of the kind of training they will receive at Italia Conti.

We offer four workshops:

  • Musical Theatre, which will include Acting, Singing and Dance
  • Acting
  • Dance
  • Acting Through Song

The workshops include a Q&A session, in which one of our tutors will talk about Italia Conti, Performing Arts training in general and answer any questions, which participants may have. Musical theatre workshop

Acting Through Song – An Italia Conti Acting Tutor and MD will work with participants on how approach and perform prepared musical theatre songs.

Dance – An Italia Conti Dance tutor will lead participants through a warm-up, a musical theatre routine and a cool down.

Q&A – An Italia Conti tutor will lead a Q&A session, in which they will talk about Italia Conti, Performing Arts training in general and answer any questions, which the participants may have

Acting workshop

Acting – An Italia Conti Acting Tutor will lead a workshop which will include improvisation, character development and work on a piece of text.

Q&A – An Italia Conti tutor will lead a Q&A session, in which they will talk about Italia Conti, Performing Arts training in general and answer any questions, which the participants may have.

Dance – An Italia Conti Dance tutor will lead participants through a warm-up, a routine and a cool down.

Widening Participation

Italia Conti is fully committed to developing initiatives that reduce barriers to and training and support greater access, success, progress for those from underrepresented groups in Higher Education, the Creative Arts and specialist performing arts training.

Italia Conti’s current focus is to:

  • Improve the participation of Global Majority people (People of Colour) in applying for and receiving offers for our courses and pursuing the Performing Arts;
  • Maintain and continue to support the success of Global Majority students attending performance courses;
  • Support the access and participation of applicants and students with Disabilities.
  • Improve the participation of Children from Military Families in applying for our courses and receiving offers for our courses and pursuing the Performing Arts;
  • Improve access for applicants from low socio-economic backgrounds;
  • Continue to review curriculum to ensure that it is diverse, accessible and enabling of a wide range of students, their abilities and their experiences.

Successful initiatives have included:

  • Co-founding the FDS Regional Auditions (pre-Covid-19);
  • Utilising technology to support auditions and open day events through virtual access;
  • Introducing Fee Waivers for those facing socio-economic barriers;
  • Forming Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committees at staff and student levels to support EDI initiatives of access, support, education, training, and culture.
  • Reviewing content and delivery of training to enhance opportunities for Global Majority students;
  • Providing training to staff and students on Anti-racism, Gender Inclusion, Inclusive Language, Mental Health, Supporting Students with Seizures & Allergies
  • Engaging with early educators and early career advisors to ensure that future students from all backgrounds feel that training and a career in the performing arts is an option.
