Movement in drama, also known as actors’ movement, is an essential part of performance. It’s all about how the body communicates emotions, intention and character.
Movement in drama goes beyond simple gestures and choreography, instead, it’s about authenticity and performance. For actors, mastering movement in drama is imperative for delivering compelling and believable performances.
What is Movement in Drama?
Movement in drama refers to the physical aspects of performance. This includes:
- Posture
- Body language

- Movement specialist skills (e.g. buffon, Laban, etc.)
To master movement, an actor must understand how their body interacts with the stage, props and other performers. From small changes in posture to grand gestures, every move on stage should contribute to the overall performance.
