Safeguarding and Wellbeing
Safeguarding, safety and wellbeing sit at the heart of life at Italia Conti. We are committed to creating an environment where every student and member of staff feels safe, supported and able to thrive.
We take a proactive, transparent approach to wellbeing, recognising that professional training is demanding and that students may need different forms of support at different times.
Raising a Safeguarding or Wellbeing Concern
If you are a student, or have a concern about the safety or wellbeing of a student at Italia Conti, please contact the Safeguarding Team: safeguarding@italiaconti.co.uk
All concerns are handled sensitively and confidentially, in line with our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and related policies, available on our Policies page.
Harassment, Sexual Misconduct and Violence Dashboard
Italia Conti is committed to providing a safe, respectful and supportive environment for all students, staff and visitors.
We do not tolerate harassment, sexual misconduct, sexual violence, bullying, discrimination, intimidation or behaviour that undermines the dignity, safety or wellbeing of others.
Everyone at Italia Conti has a responsibility to help maintain the safety and wellbeing of our students, staff and visitors by making clear that such behaviour is unacceptable and by reporting incidents or concerns when they arise.
Get Support
Student Wellbeing Support
Italia Conti offers a high level of pastoral and wellbeing support across all courses and disciplines.
Our dedicated Wellbeing Area is staffed during operating hours by trained Wellbeing Team members, providing a calm and confidential space for students to seek support.
The Safeguarding and Wellbeing Lead (Designated Safeguarding Lead), or a Deputy, is always available on site.
Students can access support through drop-in sessions or pre-booked appointments.
Support may include guidance around:
- Mental health and emotional wellbeing
- Housing and financial concerns
- Managing injury or physical health issues
- Liaison with external agencies
- Signposting to specialist or external services, including counselling
The Wellbeing Team also provides first aid support and immediate injury management advice.
Safeguarding Practice and Training
Safeguarding is a shared responsibility at Italia Conti. All staff receive annual training in safeguarding, child protection and Prevent.
These areas also form part of both staff and student inductions. All students and staff are expected to adhere to the Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy at all times.
Mental Health Support
Alongside the Wellbeing Team, a large number of staff across the organisation are trained as Mental Health First Aiders and are available as an initial point of contact for students experiencing mental health concerns.
Where appropriate, students may also be referred to online counselling through Italia Conti’s partnership with TELUS Health, accessed online through the student’s ProPortal.
Pastoral and Peer Support
Pastoral care is embedded throughout student life at Italia Conti.
- Heads of Year host regular tutorials to provide ongoing pastoral support, share key information and offer space for discussion
- Course Teams work closely with the Wellbeing Service to ensure student needs are understood and supported
- Students are represented by Course Reps and Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity (EDI) Reps, who provide peer support and a channel for raising ideas, concerns and good practice
- Students on courses validated by UEL also have access to selected support services through UEL collaborative student entitlement agreements.
Medical Support
The Wellbeing Team provides first aid support and immediate injury management advice during normal working hours. Many staff across the building are also first aid trained.
Wellbeing Officers act as trusted points of contact for students with personal or medical concerns and can advise on counselling, specialist appointments or medical support where required. In an emergency, students are referred directly to hospital services.
The Wellbeing Team has access to students’ self-declared medical information and emergency contacts. Students living away from home are strongly encouraged to register with a local GP.
The Hub
Whilst studying at Italia Conti, students also have access to The Hub, a dedicated social and relaxation space providing:
- Facilities to prepare food
- Seating for eating and resting
- A space to recharge between classes and rehearsals
